Mise-en-Scence

Mise en Scene

In the frame we see the close up shot of the John Ottway (played as Liam Neeson) we then see the wolves in the background and the director may have chosen this to really show that Ottway is outnumbered and brings tension to the audience.
The props such as the wallet and pictures show memories in the lives and how much the character cares about family life and will fight if it means that it would somehow help his family.
The use of costume play a role as in the very cold conditions we see the character is not wearing the right amount of clothing to be kept warm in such conditions. This may put the audience is the same situation with the character. The mise en scene makes us feel the same way the actor does.
Lighting is dimmed, despite the fact that the scene is in a snowy area. Once again shows that there is no hope for either character surviving, in the scene both are at risk of death so the dimmer the lighting the less chance of hope is replicated.
Most makeup used here is blood, at the very end of the scene we see that both characters are bleeding and the use of this connotes that both of their lives has ended, due to the amount of blood loss. The blood being on snow makes it stand out to the audience.
